CHAR 21 is an intumescent water-based, white paint that is designed to provide passive fire protection for concrete structures.

CHAR 21 is specially designed to generate an insulating foam in case of fire, reducing heat transmission to the substrate on which it is applied. If necessary it allows greater fire resistance for the concrete structures (beams, columns, slabs and walls).

It is fire resistant for up to 90 minutesCHAR 21 has a low VOC content and is environmentally friendly, as demonstrated by its EN ISO 16000 testing “Indoor Air“.

Application

CHAR 21 can be applied by airless sprayers or by brush/roller. The layers should be a maximum of 1000 microns when wet for airless applications and 500 microns when wet for applications using a brush/roller. In order to be able to carry out the application we must first prepare the surface.

Before starting the application we must check that all the surfaces to be coated are clean, dry and free of loose materials or materials that may prevent proper adhesion. If there are no such materials, the structures should be cleaned. Then, protect the concrete with Primer 3500  (60-80 microns).

The room temperature during application must be above 5 °C. The surface temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point temperature.

A compatible enamel can be applied if a decorative finish, or a exposure environments with more extreme conditions. Consult the Technical Department for compatible finishing enamels.

Certificates
