Firefilm A5 is an intumescent, water-based, thin-film paint for the protection of steel structures that are not exposed to the elements.

The Firefilm A5 paint allows a low thicknesses of protection to be obtained as well as the application of layers of up to 1,200 microns (Airless) when wet, applying the necessary thickness in a single layer and allowing very short installation times and greater advantages on-site.

Intumescent painting system tested by British StandardFirefilm A5 offers a fire resistance of up to 60 minutes (R60).

Application

Firefilm A5 can be applied by airless sprayers or by brush, in case of brush applications the coats must be of a maximum of 600 microns. In order to be able to carry out the application we must first prepare the surface.

To prepare the surface we must check that all the surfaces to be coated are  clean, dry and free of loose materials or materials that may prevent proper adhesion. If there are no such materials, the steel structures should be cleaned by blasting under dry atmospheric conditions, using an appropriately-sized and type of abrasive that has a homogeneous abrasive-particle diameter and is free of moisture and oils.

Should not be applied directly to galvanized surfaces or zinc-rich primers.

The ambient temperature during application must be above 5 °C. The relative humidity must be less than 80%. The surface temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point temperature.

A compatible enamel can be applied if a decorative finish is required.
